PAWS - Your Church on My Bonfire
Your Church On My Bonfire by PAWS
After several long years marked by devastating losses, broken relationships, lineup changes and numerous tours across the globe playing shows alongside bands like Frightened Rabbit, The Cribs, Death Cab For Cutie and Japanese Breakfast, Scottish rock trio PAWS - comprised of vocalist and guitarist Phillip Taylor, drummer Josh Swinney and bassist John Bonnar - returned home to Glasgow to get to work on the songs that would become Your Church On My Bonfire, the band’s fourth album and first full-length since 2016’s Mark Hoppus-produced No Grace. Rather than let the massively life- altering changes they endured overwhelm them or drive them into silence, PAWS chose to embrace those changes, allowing what came after to inspire a new version of the band reflective of the people they became in the process.
Your Church On My Bonfire was recorded in Scotland in October 2018. Producer and mixing engineer Andy Monaghan (Frightened Rabbit) brought out a gentler side of PAWS previously masked by noisy guitars and raucous drums. Whereas No Grace showcased the trio at their most personally withdrawn, letting the instrumentation bear the emotional load, Your Church finds a band unafraid to lay themselves bare, with songwriter Phillip Taylor at his most tender yet, intimately addressing difficult issues like death, loss, forgiveness, regret, and mental health with touching candidness.
“This record documents the last three years of my life,” says Taylor. “It focuses lyrically on themes like hindsight with regards to personal relationships and people that are no longer a part of your life, especially those that may have made a large impact on you and your development as a person, as well as change and developing to your surroundings as they shift around you.”
Taylor’s introspection shines on songs like “What We Want,” a ballad about coming to understand his father - and coming to terms with their tumultuous relationship - in the aftermath of his passing, and “The Slow Sprint,” which features vocals from Gregory and the Hawk vocalist Meredith Godreau and offers an outstretched hand of hope to a lost soul struggling to find their place. Though PAWS have never shied away from using their music to forge emotional connections, Your Church On My Bonfire is a direct invitation for listeners to take an honest look at themselves, their relationships and the world around them and find beauty, compassion and kinship in the smallest things.

Tycho - Easy (single)
Tycho’s 2016’s GRAMMY® nominated, Billboard-topping album, ‘Epoch’ saw huge success for the San Francisco-based group, building to two sold out nights at London’s 2000-capacity Electric Brixton followed by a date at The Roundhouse. Today, Tycho give a first glimpse at new material with brand new track "Easy."
“Easy” is available now on Mom + Pop Music x Ninja Tune and sees Tycho’s trademark vibrant, cinematic electronics topped with hushed vocal descants, adding a new layer of instrumentation and hinting at a new direction for their next chapter, which is set to unfold over the summer of 2019. "Music can transport us to other realities but can also ground us firmly within ourselves" says Scott Hansen, Tycho’s primary composer, songwriter and producer. "After a trilogy of records spent exploring the outer reaches of experience I am focusing inward to reveal a human side to the music."
“The past 13 years have seen Tycho evolve from the part-time solo project of a graphic designer into a band that achieved things far beyond any of our wildest expectations” he continues. "My journey as an artist has been defined by an iterative cycle with each album building on and refining an overarching vision. ‘Easy’ is about coming to terms with my past and defining a clear vision moving forward. It’s a comforting voice that reminds you not to get so lost in the work, but to take it easy and enjoy the ride. ‘Easy’ is the bridge to the future.”

Valance Drakes and Kero team up for their first collaborative endeavor. The EP, Abstract Thought is an evident fusion of both artist’s unique styles, bringing together elements of glitch, Hip hop, Detroit techno, and a whole lot of space vibes.

My hands float before my face, drifting in defiance of gravity, willfulness brought on by forces beyond my own. Things stop very abruptly with a crash the shakes my eyes in their very sockets, rattling reverberation pushing painfully through my skull.
One thousand days in space feels like nothing and everything all at once. Children grow, faces fill with wrinkles and I stay still.
Until my eyes begin to shake and everything turns to television static flashing somewhere inches behind vision. Is someone stepping on my throat?
I’ve crashed into something hard and barren. Is that electricity I see, clinging to my hands?
I spring across an earth or planet or meteorite that crumbles beneath my boots and sways in the air moving so swiftly about my body, dust flying up into the visor of the helmet that saves me, threatening cracks, ruckus.
I can hear my heartbeat in here. I wonder if this is what it sounds like in the womb. The rope connecting me to the ship is something like an umbilical cord. Is it not? Maybe it’s a vacuum. Maybe I’m not born yet after all.

Fennesz - Agora
Agora is Christian Fennesz's first solo album since ‘Mahler Remixed’ [Touch, 2014] and ‘Bécs’ [Editions Mego, 2014]. Fennesz writes: “Its a simple story. i had temporarily lost a proper studio workspace and had to move all my gear back to a small bedroom in my flat where I recorded this album. It was all done on headphones, which was rather a frustrating situation at first but later on it felt like back in the day when I produced my first records in the 1990s. In the end it was inspiring. I used very minimal equipment; I didn't even have the courage to plug in all the gear and instruments which were at my disposal. I just used what was to hand.”
Recorded at Kaiserstudios, Vienna, August, September 2018
Rainfall: Vocals Katharina Caecilia Fennesz
Agora: Field recordings Manfred Neuwirth, vocals Mira Waldmann
Mastered by Denis Blackham @ Skye
